Clariant hosted the 1st East Africa Oil Refining Seminar

Clariant Business Unit Functional Minerals launched inaugural oil refining seminar in Kenya.

  • Clariant technical experts shared insights from the Business Unit Functional Minerals on key topics relating to oil refining.

Johannesburg, July 03, 2017 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, hosted the 1st East Africa Oil Refining Seminar in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 14th of June, 2017. Organised by the Business Unit Functional Minerals (BU FM), the seminar saw customers and technical experts brought together as an industry collective.

The seminar came just after Clariant’s new plant inauguration that took place in Turkey to introduce the new Tonsil® Optimum 258 bleaching solution for easy-to-bleach oils in April. “With our new production location in Balikesir, Turkey, we are bringing TONSIL® solutions even closer to Kenya. TONSIL® makes an important contribution to healthy nutrition in harmony with nature. It improves shelf-life of the oil and removes unwanted substances while at the same time protecting nutrients,” said Jaco Strijdom, Sales Manager, BU FM.

The one-day seminar was hosted by technical experts Carlos Rodriguez, Head of Technical Support, BU FM, and Jorge Herrero, Technical Support Manager. The technical duo presented content from BU FM on Bleaching Optimisation, 3-MCPD & GE in palm oil – from harvesting to end customer in detail. They also shared content on the most key topics related to oil refining and furthermore included a discussion on ways to reduce refining costs. Additionally, the Clariant Purification Portfolio was unpacked for discussion during the seminar. The seminar provided a good platform for Clariant’s customers to network and share information.

After the successful seminar, Jaco Strijdom added, “The seminar played a key role in catalysing the long-term growth plans of our business in the region via deep dive sessions. We are very glad to be able to serve to the industry  with a wide range of sustainable and innovative solutions. This is the first event of its kind in East Africa by any company and we look forward to hosting more in the future.”
